Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of OpeningMatrix, including the website, training tools, repertoire builder, community courses, and paid plans (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
OpeningMatrix is an online chess opening study and practice tool. It is provided for educational and personal use. The Service is not professional coaching, legal advice, or a guarantee of over-the-board results.
Features, content, and availability may change as we improve the product. We may add, change, or remove parts of the Service at any time.
2. Accounts
You must provide accurate information when you register and keep your login details confidential. Email accounts must be confirmed with a code before you can sign in. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.
One person may use one account. You may not share, sell, or transfer your account, or let others use paid access that is billed to you.
You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your country, or use the Service only with a parent or guardian’s permission where required.
3. Paid plans
Your first opening course is included at no charge. Creating additional opening courses, and access to paid plan perks such as Unlock Unlimited, require a paid plan. Prices, billing intervals, and what is included are shown at checkout and on the plan page at the time of purchase.
Paid access continues until it is cancelled or it expires, according to the terms of the payment provider we use. Unless required by law, fees are non-refundable once a billing period has started.
You must not attempt to bypass usage limits, share paid access, or obtain paid features without paying.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service in a way that breaks applicable law;
- harass others, post abusive content, or misuse community features;
- scrape, copy, or redistribute our content or other users’ content at scale without permission;
- interfere with the Service, including probing, overloading, or attempting to bypass security or rate limits;
- reverse engineer the Service except where the law allows it.
We may suspend or close an account that violates these Terms.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of courses, lines, comments, and other material you create (“Your Content”). You grant OpeningMatrix a licence to host, display, and process Your Content so we can operate the Service, including public community courses you choose to publish.
You are responsible for Your Content and must have the rights to submit it. We may remove content that we reasonably believe violates these Terms or the law.
6. Our content and trademarks
The Service, including software, design, official opening material, and the OpeningMatrix name and branding, is owned by us or our licensors. You may use the Service as intended. You may not copy, resell, or create a competing product from our materials without written permission.
7. Disclaimer
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that opening data or training results are complete or accurate.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, OpeningMatrix and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty euros if you have not paid us, whichever is greater. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits; in those places, our liability is limited to the maximum allowed by law.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, if we must do so for legal or security reasons, or if we discontinue the Service.
Sections that by their nature should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive termination.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree, you should stop using the Service.
11. Contact
